Sport and Tours Policy

De Kuilen Primary aims for healthy/balanced participation in sport by the largest number of learners possible. By participating in sport we envisage learners to:

  • Develop their talents
  • Experience the advantage of developing a healthy body
  • Develop physical skills including the improvement/development of muscular/eye co-ordination
  • Develop social skills. This includes the responsibilities of being a member of a team, one’s fellow team members, the coach, the opponents as well as self - discipline and sportsmanship
  • Develop learners holistically.

A. ADMISSION TO AND PARTICIPATION IN TEAMS

1. CLASSIFICATION
RUGBY:
All learners participate strictly according to age groups set by Western Province. All teams are selected on merit after trials have taken place.

CRICKET
All learners participate in their respective age groups, but may be included in an older age group. Girls will be treated individually. Teams are selected on merit.

TENNIS
Mini – Tennis: Grades 1 and 2 practice within their grade group. Mini – tennis is for Foundation Phase learners only. Learners from Grade 3 onwards are included in the senior teams. Teams are selected on merit. Learners may participate in an older age group.

NETBALL
All learners participate strictly according to their respective age groups. Teams are selected on merit after trials have been played.

ATHLETICS
All learners participate strictly according to their respective age groups. If an item does not exist in his/her age group, he/she may participate in an older age group.

GENERAL
The choice of the team made by the coach is final. All learners have the opportunity of participating in regular and meaningful practises regardless of the team in which they are.

A player may not participate in more than one team simultaneously, eg for both the first and second team in his/her age group or in the first team of two different age
groups excluding reserves.

To play for a team, a player should attend all practises regularly. A player who attends practises regularly enjoys preference over and above a player who is better, but does not attend practises regularly. Teams should be announced well before the time of a match. The choice of the team made by the coach is final.

TRAINING/COACHING
The school encourages the attendance of coaching clinics. The strongest team, in the coach’s opinion, will be selected to play in matches. All learners will be accommodated optimally during practises. Matches will be arranged (as far as possible) for all teams. Learners who do not attend De Kuilen Primary may not participate in any sport at the school.

D. STOPPAGE (CESSATION)/WITHDRAWAL OF LEARNERS’ PARTICIPATION

If a learner avails him/herself for inclusion in any sport team he/she may only
withdraw from the team during the course of the season due to serious health
issues, injuries or relocation.
